I tried using some chunkier, sketchy brushes, again to try to keep us loose and discourage getting too precious, all over this cool postcard template from someone named Spudoof. These brushes are from Zhillustrator's brush set called eXpressure 2 FREE (1983646). And who better to dive deep into being non-precious about things, than Emry, Lurker of the Loch?
I love how these really do feel like just jumping in with some no-nonsense colors and kinda potentially making a mess while you churn some art out--one of the best parts of digital is no cleanup. It takes me back to when I was just plugging away at postcards for the kids and beyond. Anyway, this was all digital, but I appreciated how analog it all felt.
And usually my stuff has a strong emphasis on lines, but this one was the first time it really didn't feel like the lines were super crucial, or at least definitive, like they stand alone. This one was definitely all about the colors and how they build out the lines, though the lines are still an enjoyable and necessary part of the process. And the sketchy nature of the look overall is appealing all the same.
