Inking this take on Sungal, one of my first G-Pen efforts.

Trying to figure out what a tribal Sungal might look like.

So after the Copic exploded and the inks freaked out, we ended with this.
Added some colored pencil and white-out and called it a wrap.
So that's how that shakes out.
It's not all sunshine.

So I could have given up after the Copic exploded, but figured it'd be fun to see if I could rescue the piece.
But then when inking (decided to use inks after pencils for this one), the G-Pen randomly flung ink everywhere.
Excellent.

Ok, ok, funny story with this one.
I was studying a magazine, went to color the eyelashes, and my Copic just poops a fat inkblob everywhere cuz of course it does.
Hilarious.

And here's the result of our first experiment tearing a Magic card face off and going to town with inks, Copics, and white-out.
The white-out gets really tangled up in the blue material a little too easily, so it's not quite reliable enough for a real piece--it tends to either blob up or scraggle out with too limited smooth runs.
Been looking for some Jim Lee level white-out...two dud brands so far, next is a bottle of White Deleter.

More Magic experimenting. Seeing how Copics interact with cards' blue layer.

Trying out something new--ripping the front off of Magic cards, and drawing my own stuff on top.
Yes.
The trick is that the air in my room is too cold, so it's hard to tear off the face only as far as the white layer, the white layer clings to the face layer, so it goes straight to the blue core layer.

I had an old package of Pocky laying around and wanted to spruce it up.
At the same time, I scored some sweet, obscure Copics I have been craving to test out.
I also needed to figure out Didi's color scheme.
The complication is in the skin.
I sort of envision her as sorta Japanese since that's all I have for reference around here.
I don't really think in terms of color, but I do know I have the inherent "white" complexion drilled into my imagination.
I grew up in the US. I have to force myself to think in terms of darker skin tones. There was a Boondocks comic about this.
It's a bummer. I find it hard to believe you can exist today and not feel the pressure of that default light-skin imagination.
There was a study about this. What race is a stick figure?
Anyway, she lives in Japan, she's Japanese-ish.

Pretty sure I want Didi to have a military type jacket.
And the Dimir shirt has to be purpley, which makes her hair and eyes kind of sink into that.
But I always get tripped up on skin...

Bought a new pen I bought at 7-11.
Not braggin'.

Certain songs just punch all those emotional buttons, don't they.
Imagine having that kind of power. Her kind of power.

La la la la la la.
