Finally! 2014 is in the backlogged books! Just one more year before we're caught up to being now three months behind schedule!
Sending off 2014 with a Moleskine sketch of our intrepid zeroes. Note, Zero is never supposed to wear pro-JE gear...

This was pretty fun. A rejected pitch about splashy things.

Reuxben
When faced with inferiority, it's complex, but Inktober seeks to simplify in '15.
4/4 measures lightyears less than we are.
By which they mean me.
It's in a book.
So it goes.

Added some stars to this because I was thinking about Mario for some reason.
It made sense at the crime.

A drawing for Inktober '15.
You can tell I didn't know what to draw because of all the nonsensical swirls at the top from which I stone-water-like extracted this drawing.
Also the character is just fuming angry for no reason and making some rando gesture, tell-tale signs I don't know what I'm doing.
But of course I know what I'm doing. I always do.
I went to Yale.
3/8/16
Reuxben
And here's our not-so-scary scary Inktober '15 piece.
I imagine she has some kind of pumpkin-based power. She's about to bravely fight off some horrible monster.
And die.
3/8/16
Reuxben
Adding some G-Pen inks to our punky pumpkin munchkin.
Thing with the G-Pen is you don't want to waste ink, so any extra invariably ends up in rando designs in the background or wutev.

Reuxben
Wanted to draw something vaguely horror-based for Inktober '15.
3/8/16
Reuxben
Taking a break from strolling down memory lane to whip out one of my very first paint-marker alters, complete with 5 cent ivy.
Can you guess the card? I'll give you a hint.
Too hard, huh? Didn't win? Admit it.
3/7/16
Reuxben
Ah! From the old file--long lost, unaired ZLMs! There they are! Just like that!
3/7/16
Reuxben
Ah, man, the old file had this old folded up envelope inside! Wonder what could be inside this!
3/7/16
Reuxben
Quick peak into the file I found with some classic jamz.
3/7/16
Reuxben
Wowwwww just found this old file with a ton of old art I did from the early days in Japan, man.
Wonder what could be inside...
3/7/16
Reuxben
Moleskine live-ink drawing at Immigration. Awful.

Pizzagyaru. Please come and save the day.
Pizzagyaru. Just let my pizza stay.
3/4/16
Reuxben
It's Pizzagyaru, the hero pizza needs and deserves. But she's too busy for all that...
...nonsense.
3/4/16
Reuxben
One of my very first paint-marker card alters. Not tournament legal, aww yeahhh.
3/3/16
Reuxben
Realized I haven't been posting Moleskine sketches--last one was posted in 2012?!.,;
Anyway, here's Zero and Nyao from my trip to the Japanese DMV.
She was always supposed to be more alien in her outfits for obvious reasons, while he inexplicably has all this custom clothing, despite apparently not having much money, though we never really got into that, actually.
3/3/16
Reuxben
Testing Didi and pencils on actual comic paper. Like butter.
3/3/16
Reuxben
Drew this for Inktober '15. I like the idea of a hero rendered tiny yet powerful by some huge giant threat.
I love the feeling of the hero vs. the world.
Doth it pass?
3/2/16
Reuxben
Sketching during Pro Tour Battle for Zendikar, I believe. It was Inktober '15.
3/2/16
Reuxben
Leafing through some old files and found the pencils to Mad Hilda.
3/2/16
Reuxben
And our Eldrazi Scion is complete.
I drew him just riffing off of the tear I made in the token.
Coloring was just a matter of making sure chunko here stands out over the heap of visual variety.
3/1/16
Reuxben
Next on the docket is a full-color Eldrazi Scion.
Oddly sentimental about this shot of color getting in his belly.
3/1/16
Reuxben
And Elfie is now complete.
This is a torn alter, which means we tore the paper right off the token and then went to it with ballpoints and Copics. The costuming is a nod to Deedlet from Lodoss, dudelette.
2/29/16
Reuxben
Elfie beegee.
Elfie bling bling.
2/29/16
Reuxben
Taking an elfie. Har har...yeah.
2/29/16
Reuxben
Another design from the millions of scraps, twinkling away like little stars.

A piece for Inktober '14, G-Pen boot camp. I really wanted to cut loose with the costuming, but then didn't take enough care with the posing.
I've been trying to draw those shorts for years, and we're kinda getting there.
Overall, vaguely inspired by Misty from Pokemon, of course.
2/29/16
Reuxben
Lines from an old piece for Inktober '14.
2/29/16
Reuxben
Another little splash pitch. The idea is Sundoof is hanging with a Jeskai-ish monk monkey, but not really taking it seriously or getting easily distracted or whatevz.
2/28/16
Reuxben
Here's the gussied-up version of our ink-bleeding experiment. I can see this working great for skin, like how soft the collar bone area came out.
Starting to get the hang of brushing in the white-out, too, so doubly not a loss here.
2/28/16
Reuxben
Here is a fateful experiment to see how inks interact with Copics. This brand, while great for its delicate four-color ability, melts out like watercolor pencils under Copics. Possibly usable, since we can then draw fresh "strict" lines on top of "melted" lines for neat effects, but kinda too risky to use on a real piece at the moment.
2/28/16
Reuxben
So this is our Eldrazi Scion torn alter token. I wanted to go with something loosey-goosey since I was testing out my fudepens with Copics.
This handled cakes of Copics just famously, so I'd say it's a pretty reliable ink going forward.
2/27/16
Reuxben
Another early torn alter test, this one seeing how a purely brush pen piece would go, with the intention to then see how these handle inks.
Super worried about inks bleeding...so far I've found only one ink type to bleed, but fortunately not this one.
2/27/16
Reuxben
One of my first torn alters, to test how our different inks interact on the course paper, and to see how detailed we can get with live inks, meaning no pencils, just sketching off the dome.
Vaguely Chandra-esque, but the point was something mech-y since it's a thopter token.
Plan to use this as a guinea pig for marker color tests.
2/27/16
Reuxben
Here's something quite different. Rejected sketches to a splash image concept. I did these totally digital, something I rarely do, but the KNKL method helped a lot. I took inspiration from the One Piece Color Walk illustrations and stuff like that.
I imposed an arbitrary theme, a New Years' monkey buddy hanging out with the main dood, since these were pitched around January '16. This episode is them competing in a Japanese-style school field day.

[2/29/16 edit: Found a cleaner-lines version]
Inktober '14 was about getting miles on the G-Pen, and this piece was geared towards doing something weird with the hand.
Oh, hey this is posted in actual Inktober '14. Planned that all along...
2/25/16
Reuxben
I ought to save the Inktober 2014 stuff for October 2014 since we're finally approaching actual Inktober '14, but nah.
These were the pencils to one such piece.
2/25/16
Reuxben
And she says, "Wait here."
2/24/16
Reuxben
Taste the pain, though.
Make the rain show.
