Anyway, here's Zero and Nyao from my trip to the Japanese DMV.
She was always supposed to be more alien in her outfits for obvious reasons, while he inexplicably has all this custom clothing, despite apparently not having much money, though we never really got into that, actually.
I drew him just riffing off of the tear I made in the token.
Coloring was just a matter of making sure chunko here stands out over the heap of visual variety.
This is a torn alter, which means we tore the paper right off the token and then went to it with ballpoints and Copics. The costuming is a nod to Deedlet from Lodoss, dudelette.
Another little splash pitch. The idea is Sundoof is hanging with a Jeskai-ish monk monkey, but not really taking it seriously or getting easily distracted or whatevz.
Here is a fateful experiment to see how inks interact with Copics. This brand, while great for its delicate four-color ability, melts out like watercolor pencils under Copics. Possibly usable, since we can then draw fresh "strict" lines on top of "melted" lines for neat effects, but kinda too risky to use on a real piece at the moment.
One of my first torn alters, to test how our different inks interact on the course paper, and to see how detailed we can get with live inks, meaning no pencils, just sketching off the dome.
Vaguely Chandra-esque, but the point was something mech-y since it's a thopter token.
Plan to use this as a guinea pig for marker color tests.
Here's something quite different. Rejected sketches to a splash image concept. I did these totally digital, something I rarely do, but the KNKL method helped a lot. I took inspiration from the One Piece Color Walk illustrations and stuff like that.
I imposed an arbitrary theme, a New Years' monkey buddy hanging out with the main dood, since these were pitched around January '16. This episode is them competing in a Japanese-style school field day.
