I didn't realize I never posted the final to that old Florrie-inspired Torn Alter Token, so here it is at long last.

Not normal,

Fun_Calt.DinDinJomB

I have a really hard time saying no to people...long story short, I ended up going to a dinner Monday night. I rarely eat with people...probably once or twice a year, always under duress. I tend to turtle-up considerably in group settings. I need an "objective" like playing Magic or drawing in order to be able to handle being around people.

But on the plus side, there were some kids with us so I offered to draw them a torn alter token since I happened to have brought my portable art kit with me (what luck!). They were down and asked me to draw a zombie.

I peeled the spare OGW token as carefully as I could during the infinitely long night-time stroll to the restaurant, and drew during most of dinner. There was no dessert. The brothers, maybe 10 and 8 at most, also did some sketches, too; we all drew zombies. One kid tried mimicking my construction circles, but I'm pretty sure he didn't quite understand what that was about, haha! He drew some bubbly zombies! Stuff like that makes me happy, just making people happy with art, just like the old days.

Didn't get a chance to snap anything more than the final image, unfortunately, but I did pencil this first. Other than that, I used the usual process of ballpoint inks to Copic colors (just had grays on me), though my T-7 randomly exploded...I don't get why Copic explosions keep happening...I was going to go in with white Signo anyway, so no real harm, just a little alarming. I also got to use my shiny silver glitter pen on the zombie's head, so it sparkles a little when you move it around.

They didn't realize I was drawing this literally for them, so they were so happy when I gave them the card! They don't play card games at the moment, it seems, but hopefully they give it a shot some day.

The food was a tough chew--cold spaghetti?! Why would you do that?--but fortunately Japanese french fries remain fantastic as usual. I just wish there weren't that everybody-shove-your-hands-into-communal-serving-dishes culture in JP dining, though. The water was excellent. Decor, top notch.

A torn alter of a goblin, using my four-color ballpoint pen.

The impetus was that I wanted to see if I could render skin and metal with this janky, limited pen, and to draw Ib's hat again, which I enjoyed the first time around.

Anyway, I screwed up on this, but I did learn from it. Even on the technical side of it, since the pen lock stopped working early on, so I had to figure out how to maneuver it color-stem by color-stem without the stem bending out from under the pressure of my fingers. So there's that.

Another jombie torn alter token, this one done after the SOI prerelease, just to see if we could go gnarlier.

And kill time.

Fun_Calt.Elfior

A live ink to da max with my multi-color ballpoint pen for this (largely useless) Elf Warrior torn alter token. I actually started this a while ago, before SOI rendered Elf Warrior tokens even less relevant, but I finished it off just today in an effort to clear my little docket of tokens that have been waiting to receive finishes.

It does suck that the token is basically unusable, but to be fair, this was more of a learning experience anyway to see how articulate we can get using just this pen. I do know not to mix them with Copics, for example, we learned that. So I'm pretty happy with what we can get, will have to watch the blending a bit more, but next step is to try this on a more usable token. I do love Copics, so I figure this might be just a good option if I'm ever looking for something relatively more straightforward or mobile, since I don't need my Santa-bag of Copics immediately on me for these.

Fun_Calt.OolfBun

And the finals of Oolf and da Bun at long last.

Again inspiration for this was from Chiara. The background, I was on the fence about. Didn't want to do another night sky, kinda wanted to incorporate more green for the token's actual color, so went with a jungly/foresty-night, somewhat abstract background.

Fun_Calt.WraithAwaiting

And a Merry Christmas it is--our little Wraith just got her wings.

Again the throat armor took inspiration from Algenpfleger's Solider token, but other than that, just hardcore riffin', especially on the bg. I chose to make the armor designs vaguely based on the letter M, for Markov.

I couldn't have this token fully colored for the SOI prerelease since I needed to pull this peculiarly rare token from one of my packs in the first place. Once I ripped one, I kept it BW for the event since I didn't want to present a half-colored, not-yet-ready-for-prime-time token, especially when the others were all fully colored up or BW themselves.

And then the base colors for our little wraith, as I've been calling her.

I had to call it a night when I was coloring this so I just roughed in the bg there, and hoped I would be able to remember what I was going for later on. We'll see how that goes soon enough.

Studying Algen's soldier token's armor a bit for this Vampire Knight token.

I loved these guys at the SOI prerelease, but couldn't prep any before the event since this was a brand new token type!

Oh, I'd torn up some vampires from KTK, but only before realizing SOI's weren't 2/2s, and they didn't fly.

I ended up drawing this while waiting for day 2 to start.

Colors coming right up, just wait your wraiths.

Lines from an old Goblin token I was working on.

It's based on Florrie, of all people. I figure as a drummer, she'd make a great Goblin, since the gag is she's banging on stuff with a little mallet thing. Hilarious, right? Right.

Not sure what to do with this...straight to Copics? Inks? I'm guessing it'll be an experimental one, so I'm mainly posting this in case it goes horribly wrong.

No real reason to get on this though, since Goblin tokens aren't really in demand these days.

And our final of the joomby we colored in-store. How about that.

Slightly worried it'd have too much of a circus or calavera vibe, but I'd say we landed all right.

It was particularly fun digging in on this background, using the XP from the other Copic-based bg I did.

Fairly foolhardy, but I packed all my Copics into my backpack for the SOI prerelease weekend so I could color during down time. Ever since I've been able to read cards in Japanese, it's become less crucial for me to hardcore-memorize the set before the weekend, since I can just read the set over a couple times and then look over cards on the spot to refresh my memory.

Well, I got to the midnight prerelease too late for the FNM beforehand, so I had a couple hours to kill before the Midnight, so I got to work on coolering this joomby, coolored live at the midnight shoop.

Moar Joombiez for the SOI prerelease.

This looks so pleasing from across the table, all those lovely purples just chilling up the joint.

This was my first time drawing with Copics, too, I just live-inked the background right in there, running mostly on instinct. Really fun, such a novel way to think about drawing.

One of our spirit tokens from the SOI prerelease.

I really, really like how sharp the heavy blacks come through when you see this dooder on the table, and the stars really give it some kick.

Good idea, me!

And our final, Copic-colored Oooolfio!

Didn't actually get to use very many oolf tokens during the SOI prerelease, but did go off in exactly one game with with the wolf-per-transformation token guy.

Hmm. That turned into a bit of a heavy post. Here's my last spirit in prep for the SOI prerelease, drawn while listening to an interview about Alpha Go plus Schmoes Know for old times' sake.

And now this section of our SOI prerelease prep has some real spirit.

This is a JP-style ghost, with that triangle dealio, as informed by various animu and the copy of Noragami #10 right next to me on a stack of jRock CDs.

Oh my gosh, this is literally my weeaboo card.

Fun_Calt.JombieStressTest_L

Another Jombie token in prep for the SOI prerelease in a couple days. This was was just seeing if I could make the Frankensteinian bolts work.

I guess I called it a stress test because I was just riffing, again these are live inks, no pencils, and I wasn't entirely sure what I was drawing here. I do know I wanted to mess with some collarbone structure I had been studying recently. That sounded weird.
