FanArt_pgtp.DoneMessedUp

Only 70 days until it's time to #PokemonGoToThePolls on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, so here is OG Hoenn Dex #070, Aron!

This piece is probably just a notch above where we want to be in terms of depth for these pieces, just need to get faster.

I'm not sure how we're going to get through October...maybe some kind of MTGinktober/Pokemon crossover? There's some precedent...

Anyway, this was an enjoyable one, because this guy's kind of a surprisingly weird design.

I hadn't ever really contemplated Aron's design before, as I'd just written them off as cute little metal mutts, but they're actually considerably more interesting than that, a lot of unusual, nuanced shape decisions.

I was also excited to draw this because I could reference A-A-ron. Enough people may have done messed up in the 2016 election, but that's no reason not to correct a large portion of the problem come the midterms on Tuesday, November 6, 2018.

And speaking of which, register if you haven't already and elect to be a voter on Tuesday, November 6, 2018.

Only 77 days until it's time to #PokemonGoToThePolls on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, so here is National Dex #077, Ponyta!

I probably went a little overboard with this one, forgot to keep it minimal.

It's important to keep these more simplistic because I won't be able to maintain more developed illustrations in October, since I'll be MTGinktobering it up by then, which will occupy five Mondays before the midterm elections on Tuesday, November 6, 2018.

This was a neat illustration challenge because I've always heard horses are tough to draw, but this didn't feel too intense, though I did almost forget to include the armpit flames! But as far as horsey stuff goes, it's just drawing.

I enjoyed getting loose with the motion blur, too, but trying not to go overboard, all the same.

Fun_TrixiGetDown

Feeling kinda glum, I just started scribbling around and ended up painting a cave-like place, eventually arriving at a sort of screenshot-style piece from like when you're talking to someone in an RPG.

I named her Trixi because Yuki mighta been a little too weeabooish (Yuki's a cool name that also means snow, in reference to her 'do, but it lost points for potential misreads with "yucky").

I figure Trixi's more of a sweet joker type anyway, hitting you with sarcasm and witticisms rather than actual advice and clues (though she sneaks them in there)--the red text sprinkling was a throwback to games like Zelda that did the same for ADD players.

I didn't realize the lines were from an old Inktober piece, but this process's exactly what I'm hoping to do more of down the line, especially with this year's more complex pieces.

That is, this piece was exciting because for a while now, I've been thinking about trying this technique of remixing pre-made inked lines into full-color, polished pieces.

I knew from the get-go I wanted to try coloring the background via gradient maps, another KNKL technique.

Background paintings with traditional cel-shaded figures is a nice combo, and the painting itself is really relaxing cuz it feels like you can't screw up too much, as opposed to more obvious figurework mistakes.

Bonus Twitter version.

L.A.S.E.R.Catz_Aliens

I don't know if these are available yet, but what the heck. Here are some more character designs I did for L.A.S.E.R. Catz, the 99¢ iPhone app game that's sweeping the nation.

Fun facts: I was terrified of aliens when I was little AND I STILL AM.

Wish I could try out the game, but alas, I don't have anything i except for Tunes. Which is kinda brutal whenever I see people visiting this site with iPhones and iPads...

Some more character designs I did for L.A.S.E.R. Catz, the new 99¢ iPhone app game, which has recently been updated. More barrels of monkey-fun after the jump, man.

L.A.S.E.R.Catz_Elementalists

Yo dawgz, my iPhone game, L.A.S.E.R. Catz, just launched in the iTunes store thingy!

App store > Games > Alarmed Publishing > L.A.S.E.R. Catz.

Ok, it's not mine, but I did do villain character design (see the above Elementalists). I don't have iStuff so I don't know how it turned out, but I saw early gameplay footage a while ago and it looked face-punchingly cool.

WARNING! Rated ages 9+ for "Infrequent/Mild Cartoon or Fantasy Violence!"

Get some (for 99¢)!
