FanArt_HitMoNuffinMatters

At long last, we've colored up this old piece.

I've been wanting to color this for years at this point, and it all started with these lines, which were inspired by Toshihiro Ono's realistic, tough-style pokemon designs.

I finally got around to coloring this because I've been in a bit of a funk lately and wanted to do something finite and manageable.

These colors are relatively straightforward, though I did make more use of masking on this one, so it felt overall less daunting to take it on, as the painting I'm currently working on keeps spiraling into more and more discouraging complexity.

Just so I know what I'm talking about later, I'm working on a painting based on a character I was writing a sci-fi story about, but it just keeps coming up with new little details I have to paint.

Anyway, this drawing has always held a special place for me since it felt like a real swing at an Ono-style Pokemon team, so I'm glad I've been able to color it to some satisfactory degree.

Not normal,

Fun_PokeDef

A piece for Inktober '15. Testing out the G-Pen and Copics.

But whenever I draw Pokemon, I always shoot for that Toshihiro Ono style that was/is so influential.

He drew Pokemon realistically, so that these guys felt like they could really do some damage.

Love inks.

One of my favorite pieces from 2015. Wanted to draw some tough Pokemon, and a tough trainer girl, like Toshihiro Ono's jams.

Today's card: Manga.

Fun Facts: I don't actually read a lot of comics, nor have I really ever. The only comics I really read were the Electric Tale of Pikachu and One Piece volumes--the first OP which I remember reading was before my first Academic Team match, in the parking lot. I had resisted reading OP because of the picture they used everywhere to promote it--they picked the worst, least appealing pic of Luffy I've ever seen, so I was quite repulsed by the series, but I finally picked it up for some reason...and I've reread that first volume so many times, studied its structure, took it with me to college, consulted it, everything.

Anyway, since coming to Japan, manga is so cheap here, you're losing money not buying comics here, plus you can practice your jReading skillz. And you can always study the art. So it's great.

Since I'm in Japan, a Japanese homage: Toshihiro Ono's take on Gary Oak from Pokemon.

So here's Gary.

[Scanned Update!]

I'd wanted to do something fancier for today, but I ran out of time, so here's some WIP detail.

Hopefully Tokyo University's General Library'll have a scanner.

Last find: Kelly tries to talk to Joe but discovers he’s taken.
Now Find 12!

Well, it's the last Herald of the semester. But is it the end of the series? . . . Yes.

I have some great ideas for the next semester that I want to explore. Besides, it'd be a hassle losing an entire week to recapping.

So the next story prospects are:
1) BLR, likely my independent summer comic
2) An action-adventure featuring joyriding con artists
3) A Sci-Fi thriller about humans and their human-like robots
4) An urban Gothic tale about modern vampires
5) An adventure of classic characters with a twist

Easter Eggs: [Edgar Allen] Poe, infinite sophomore slump?, plant monster, Find 12 in frames, burrito.

Fun Facts: This was supposed to be a cliffhanger ending for next semester to pick up, but I came up with this more final ending that is still vague enough for imaginary futures. After inking, it accidentally ended with someone winking, an even better ending.

Thanks To: Eiichiro Oda, Toshihiro Ono, Rufftoon, Laura, Leena, HSAR462: Shops and Shopping, You've Got Mail, isolation, rock.

And thanks to you for checking out the comic, it's meant a lot to me. This year has been quite miserable so it was nice to have an escape device.

And of course, thanks for visiting,

Odd title, but it'll make sense come Wednesday. So this is our first glimpse into the Yale Record's upcoming "Crime Issue." But surely there is no crime being committed here? Oh, you would be wrong. You would be dead wrong.

Easter Eggs: nothing visible yet; the sole easter egg for this piece (drawn in two segments) is on the left half, which will find its way to Removal on Wednesday. I guess I sort of was thinking of Toshihiro Ono's wonderful series, the Electric Tale of Pikachu, when I was drawing the lightning, but also I thought of Humberto Ramos' Spider-Man web designs, too. But nothing that would particularly evoke either genius.

Fun Facts: This is actually not the original drawing I made for what I will call the gag's "initiator," but I didn't like the original, so assuming the design people decipher my clues correctly, this is the one that will see print.
